51st Commemoration Ceremony: USS Midway Museum to Honor Vietnam War Veterans

FRIDAY, MARCH 29TH, 2024

On March 29, in commemoration of the 51st anniversary of when the last U.S. troops left Vietnam and the final group of American prisoners of war (POWs) were freed and left Hanoi, the USS Midway Museum will pay tribute to all U.S. military veterans who served during the Vietnam War.

The ceremony’s guest speaker is retired Navy Cmdr. Curt Dosé. A Navy pilot with nearly 200 combat missions over North Vietnam, Curt will not only describe his harrowing experience during that war but also his return to Vietnam more than 40 years later. It is a powerful story larger than the war itself and speaks to the healing that can takes place over decades.  A special wreath-laying and missing-man flyover will also highlight the ceremony.

2024 Housing Policy Leadership Academy and Housing Policy Bootcamp

The SANDAG Housing Policy Leadership Academy (HPLA) provides diverse leaders and housing professionals with a free, in-depth forum to explore and develop equitable, inclusive policy solutions to increase housing production and affordability in your community and region.

Participants are expected to commit approximately 3 hours per week for 10 weeks to explore the root causes of the housing crisis and discuss best practice policy solutions that address both the physical and social factors that underpin a healthy housing ecosystem

EC2 Construction Career Exploration Day

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2022

EC2 (Educate, Create, Cultivate) will be highlighting one of our workforce development partnerships, by providing a hands-on career exploration experience for 30 high school students.

I'd like to invite you to see a portion or all of it first hand. This will be a great opportunity to see a state-of-the-art Apprenticeship Training facility in our region and encourage some young people as they consider their future!

The Exploration Day will provide the students with a hands-on experience in various construction-related activities: Wood Framing; Heavy Equipment Operator; Steel Stud and Drywall; Finance and Accounting; 3D Modeling; and Drone and Virtual Reality Training. EC2 partners will lead each workshop as the students rotate every 30 minutes.

California Commission on Asian and PacificIslander American Affairs Listening Session

AIGA San Diego Presents the Graphis Designers for Peace

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2022

Graphis’ Designers for Peace: United with Ukraine is a global juried exhibition of contemporary poster art to create a united voice of opposition to the war in Ukraine. This exhibition features more than 60 pieces of poster art from over 30 countries, curated by Graphis CEO B. Martin Pedersen, and jury chair, Kit Hinrichs, Studio Hinrichs.

AIGA San Diego was chosen by Graphis to be the first city in the world to showcase this exhibit, which will be held as a cross-border event. The opening is also in Tijuana on Nov. 17th.

Kit Hinrichs and others will be signing posters. Posters and show catalog for sale at the event (proceeds support humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine).

Join HomeAid San Diego as we celebrate 20 years during our 4th annual STEP UP! Walk to End Homelessness November 13, 2022 at De Anza Cove, Mission Bay Park.  We will continue the event November 14-20 as a virtual 5k in locations around the country.

Check-in at our in-person event on Nov. 13 will open at 7:30am with a program at 8am and stepping off on the walk at 8:30am. After the walk we will have a pancake breakfast and highlight HomeAid SD’s key accomplishments from 2002 to now.

All proceeds benefit HomeAid San Diego’s building projects, community outreach and advocacy efforts.  Take a look at completed projects across San Diego that were supported by HomeAid San Diego.
