Tango Íntimo II brings you face-to-face with the raw beauty of tango, featuring performances by the Camarada Tango Quartet alongside renowned bandoneonist Pablo Jaurena.

Anchoring the evening is a reprise of Eclipse, Change & Bloom, the 2022 Camarada Composers Circle commission by Composer-in-Residence Andrés Martín. The evening also features timeless works by Astor Piazzolla and the world premiere of a new duo for flute and bandoneón by Pablo Jaurena. The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is a time-honored holiday tradition brought to San Diego by the boating community. Continuing its long-standing San Diego tradition, the 55th annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights promises to dazzle and entertain bayfront crowds during 2 evenings on  December 14 and December 21, 2025. Participants in this year’s highly anticipated holiday boat parade will decorate their boats to fit this year’s theme.

The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights brings more than 100,000 San Diego residents and visitors to the shores of San Diego Bay each year. The procession of approximately 80 lavishly decorated boats has become one of the most iconic events in the region. There is no cost to view the parade.

This year, for the 7th time, the parade will proceed to the pier at Cesar Chavez Park before making the turn to Coronado, giving spectators another area to view the parade.

In an era of rising political polarization and identity-driven conflict, how resistant is the United States to the threat of genocidal violence? What lessons can be drawn from societies that have experienced genocide—and how might deep-rooted cultural narratives around honor, rage, and revenge make even established democracies vulnerable?

Join the San Diego World Affairs Council (SDWAC) and the SDSU Centers for Human Rights and War and Society for a vital conversation with Professor Alexander Hinton, a leading expert on genocide, cultural violence, and white power movements in the United States. Hinton is a Distinguished Professor of Anthropology, Director of the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights, and UNESCO Chair on Genocide Prevention at Rutgers University. His recent book, It Can Happen Here: White Power and the Rising Threat of Genocide in the US, explores how seemingly stable societies can spiral into violence.

The discussion will be moderated by Grace Cheng, Founding Director of the Center for Human Rights at the College of Arts and Letters at San Diego State University.

This event confronts difficult but necessary questions about the fragility of democracy, the power of ideology, and the warning signs we must not ignore.

Go deeper with San Diego Opera productions at Opera Uncorked, a new series exploring everything you need to know about the operas in our season.

The 2025 season features one Opera Uncorked event for each of the season’s operas, plus a special evening in January where General Director David Bennett will be joined by special guests to discuss and celebrate the Opera’s 60-year history.

Each Opera Uncorked event features a presentation on the operas you’ll see by Resident Conductor Bruce Stasyna that promises to be every bit as scintillating as the wine just served at the wine and cheese reception. Bruce will discuss the history of each opera, what to listen for in the upcoming performances at the San Diego Civic Theatre, and some of the interesting challenges and fun facts of producing opera.

Coming Home: Stories of Resilience, Identity & Belonging is a collection of five short films by talented young filmmakers from across the U.S. that were selected to take part in Latino Public Broadcasting’s inaugural Latino Emerging Filmmakers Fellowship. An innovative program designed to advance the careers of up-and-coming Latino storytellers entering the field of independent media, the fellowship provided production funding, mentoring, master classes, resource sharing, and more and was made possible by a grant from the MacArthur Foundation. These five remarkable films are powerful personal narratives that explore the challenges of adapting to new environments, overcoming adversity, and redefining identity.
